Punta Prima is a location in the south-east corner of Menorca and in the municipal district of Sant Lluis. Mahon is just 10km away, so a journey from the airport is approximately 25 minutes. Nearby resorts include Binibeca and S’algar and are just 5-6km away by road.
You will find a good selection of bar/restaurants overlooking the beach serving a variety of both international and Spanish food for breakfast lunch and dinner. Punta Prima has a couple of well-stocked supermarkets selling everything you will need for day to day living, plus a couple of gift shops and car hire etc. Currency exchange is available in a number of outlets, including the supermarkets.
Punta Prima has a very good and extremely attractive beach of fine white sand with plenty of space for everyone. Facing south-east it receives the sun first thing in the morning until late evening just before it sets. But please note it can be dangerous with strong currents at certain times. There is a warning flag above the red cross building at the rear of the beach. This tells you when it is safe to swim; please take note of it.
You’re on the right track for walks at Punta Prima. The town's on the Cami de Cavalls, or Path of Horses – a world-renowned circular trail in the Balearic Islands – taking in 185 kilometres of mostly flat terrain. The route splits into 20 sections; each one clearly signposted and with helpful information on what to expect. There are lots of little beaches for swimming stop-offs en route.
Mahon has been Menorca’s capital ever since the British moved the title from Ciutadella in 1721. The Union Jack influence can still be seen in the Georgian houses near the harbour. Speaking of which, the waterfront's a lively hub of cafés, bars and restaurants. For culture and sights, Santa Maria church holds regular organ recitals, and there’s a 19th-century fort opposite the port. It’s all just 20 minutes away by bus.
