The Algarve is full of fantastic golf courses close to the sea, with superb views and expert design. One of the most famous is Vale de Lobo, which was designed by legendary British golfer Henry Cotton. Guests can enjoy the sea air while playing on one of Vale do Lobo's Royal or Ocean 18-hole championship courses. There are year-round tournaments and competitions and a Golf Academy, as well as a lovely clubhouse.
Praia do Vale do Lobo beach is a short drive from the villa, which is a discreet, under-the-radar beach perfect for those who love unspoilt landscapes. The beach has a backdrop of fabulous sandstone cliffs, and warm azure waters are ideal for swimming. Another fantastic beach is Praia do Ancão, which is regarded as the most exclusive beach in the Golden Triangle. Take a stroll along the golden sand and soak up the sea air.
Guests can take a boat trip to go dolphin spotting, which is bound to be an unforgettable experience for the whole family. The dolphins are curious and interested in humans, so sometimes up to 50 can be seen swimming happily in the wild. Some companies even bring a marine biologist, so guests can learn all about the majestic mammals. Many other boat trips can be taken around Vilamoura, which has a famous marina filled with luxury yachts.
For a spot of culture in Almancil, why not visit the Church of São Lourenço, which has amazing blue tiles on the inside. This style is known as azulejo, and it has a truly stunning effect. The Baroque church dates back to 1730. Nearby, there is a cultural centre that hosts a variety of art exhibitions and hosts musical performances.
Just 10 minutes' walk up a hillside is the Milreu Roman remains, which has an extraordinarily well-preserved mosaic in the form of a fish and the inner workings of the baths. There are even ancient oil and wine presses here.
Vale do Lobo has a lovely atmosphere in the evenings, with late-night ice cream parlours and lots of cafes with live music. Perfect for a social evening with children, the area is safe and welcoming.
