Villa Caliana boasts a superb location, just minutes from the facilities of Protaras and the town’s breathtaking, idyllic Fig Tree Bay. Like many other beaches, Fig Tree Bay has Blue Flag status and offers a fantastic array of watersports for the whole family. Watersports include parasailing, jet skis, water skiing, wakeboarding, banana boats and other fun inflatable rides. There are numerous lively bars and restaurants serving delicious food, cocktails and frappes. The name of the bay comes from the lone, centuries-old fig tree in the middle of the beach. There is a rock cave at the north end of the beach.
Protaras is a very scenic area with picturesque coastal paths and hiking trails to Konnos Beach, Louma Beach and Lombardi Beach. It is possible to take boat trips, either private or on day trips, to discover the lovely coastline. Green Bay, Cyclops Bay, the Chapel, the Canyon, the Blue Hole and the Nemesis III and Liberty ship wrecks are popular for scuba diving.
Ayia Napa boasts 14 Blue Flag beaches, delightful, charming cobbled streets and a Medieval monastery though it is mostly known for its vivacious and colourful nightlife. There are some lovely tavernas on the harbourside.
Hiking and cycling are popular in Cyprus, particularly around the majestic Troodos Mountains. Fikardou and Machairas are well worth visiting on the trip as well as one of the many vineyards that drape the foots of the hills. The wines are delicious. The cool, pine-scented mountain air is wonderful on a hot day, and you visit lonely, historic monasteries.
If you enjoy shopping, you can head to Nicosia. As well as being very pretty, the pedestrianised Laiki Geitonia area is wonderful for shopping. Within the town’s sandstone Venetian walls there are charming churches, museums and unique jewellery and fabric shops as well as a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants.
