Sugar cane ( Canyamel ) used to be grown in this part of Mallorca during the 18th century and this where the name Canyamel is derived from which refers to sugar cane and honey in ancient Latin. It is still referred to today by British ex-pats as ‘Caramel’ or ‘Caramelo’ in Spanish.

There is an influx of freshwater to the beach via the ‘Torrente de Canyamel’ river which runs 8-kilometres from the nearby ancient town of Arta. This river also runs to the small lake of ‘s’Estanyi de sa Torre’ which was given to the people of Canyamel in 1446 by King Juan II of Aragon. Like many coastal towns in Mallorca, Canyamel has a history of fending off pirate attacks.

Villa Ruby Golf is located just 400 metres from the prestigious Hyatt Country Sports Club and only 1.8 km from the local town of Canyamel where you will find all the amenities and the local beach. The property is well situated for all other areas in the north and eastern parts of the island which have so many amazing towns to offer.
