Villa Tosca is situated in Lajatico, a charming Tuscan town that has a pretty centre amidst rolling hills. The spot is just a short walk away, so guests can wander into town to find amenities such as a supermarket, as well as tasty authentic restaurants. The villa’s rural location means guests can explore the hillsides and mountains in various ways, whether hiking or walking, on a mountain bike, or on the back of a trusty steed.
The medieval hilltop town of Volterra is nearby (20km), where guests can roam the alleyways and revel in the history, feeling as though they’ve taken a step back in time. The historical centre offers the taste of the area with traditional products, and it’s also a great place to pick up souvenirs including alabaster hand-made objects, which Volterra is famous worldwide for.
Slightly further afield is San Gimignano (30km), another hilltop town this time renowned for its art, food, wine, and of course history. Wander inside the town’s walls and take in the skyline of medieval towers, including the stone Torre Grossa. Every Thursday the town has its weekly market, where you can pick up local treats and a few more souvenirs.
Of course, when in this area you will explore the rolling hilltops, enjoying the Tuscan countryside whether that’s vineyards or olive groves. After all, there’s nothing better than enjoying these treats when they're fresh.
Another equally as cliché, but must do thing is heading out to Pisa (50km). Ideal for a day trip, head to the Leaning Tower and take that tourist snap, before strolling down the lanes and looking for gelato.
Slightly further afield, guests can head out for a day trip to Siena (70km) and Lucca and Florence (80 km).
