It takes just half an hour to drive across the island, so if you wish to experience the world-renowned nightlife, beach-clubs and headlining DJs of Ibiza Town, they are within reach. But Villa Xiomara is situated in San Miguel, on the picturesque, northern coast of Ibiza, which is where you’ll want to get away from it all.
San Miguel village lies seven miles inland from the coast, high up on a hillside overlooking the rugged countryside between here and the port. This little tourist hotspot boasts a fortified church, market square, excellent selection of local restaurants and bars.
The charming artisan market on Thursday evenings sells local produce, gifts, leather and ceramic goods and is accompanied by a display of traditional folk dances. Otherwise, San Miguel lulls you into a slower pace of life which feels very, very welcome.
Down at the coast, Puerto de San Miguel has a full, sandy, family-friendly beach. Sheltering in a pretty cove, with cliffs on both sides, you’re far from the hustle and bustle of Ibiza’s leading resorts.
The calm sea is ideal for swimming, and the crystal-clear water and rock-strewn seabed make for perfect conditions for snorkelling and diving. Find the diving school and water sports centre in the harbour. While you’re here, stop for lunch at one of the many waterfront eateries. Port Balansat is claimed to be Ibiza’s most beautiful fish restaurant.
Before heading home to your fabulous private villa and pool, be sure to take the short walk up from the bay to the Caves of Can Marca. Used for years by pirates to hide their contraband, today these fascinating, dripstone caves are embellished by a beautiful light show.
