Dunas Douradas lies to the south of the Algarve town of Almancil, part of the area known as the Golden Triangle. Known for its luxurious resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, this region has a lot to offer, not least its excellent restaurants, golf courses and position close to the Ria Formosa nature reserve.
Nearby Vilamoura is one of the Algarve’s most popular resorts, and easily accessible from Faro Airport, about 30 minutes away. It ticks all the boxes for the luxury lifestyle, with much of the action taking place at its glamorous marina. Here you will find designer stores, upscale nightlife and plenty of yachts.
Many wonderful beaches line this stretch of coast, with Praia da Quarteira and Praia da Falésia among the best. Falésia’s eye-catching red cliffs add instant, rugged appeal. Golf is also a big draw – serious players will be in their element at Dom Pedro and the Quinta do Lago golf resort, while the less accomplished can have a go on the mini-courses of the Family Golf Park in Vilamoura.
Next to Vilamoura, Quarteira’s daily market is a good place to head for fresh fish, flowers and food are sold. In the opposite direction, the Albufeira Old Town and marina offer history and boat tours, and there are more beaches and water-parks for easy family days out.
It won’t take too long to make it across the river to the city of Portimão. As the largest centre in the area, you will find everything from shopping and entertainment to museums and culture – and Praia da Rocha beach, another highlight of the region.
